Simple food
I have a lot of trouble making food for my kids that they will eat. I am not a great cook, and I don’t have a lot of love of cooking, but I am constantly trying to think of things that they will eat. There are some old staples that I roll out that I know that they will eat like fried rice and bolognese. But I get very bored of eating these.
Last night I completely ran out of energy to make the kids something interesting. Instead of making something interesting like cassoulet or lasagna (neither of which they love, but I do), I just made up some spaghetti with olive oil and parmesan. I felt really guilty about serving something so basic, but they completely surprised me by LOVING it. and Liam told me “Dad, you are a great chef!”. They even ate multiple helpings…
Maybe this is the direction I should be going in for meals. Simple food is better. I just need to get over the guilt…

i believe that if you can get kids to grow their own food then they are more likely to eat it. we take our kids out to restaurants and only give them choices that are different to the food at home. ( they are 5 and 6 so don’t have any interest in menus) instead of fish and chips from the kids’ menu, we say there is calamari with a salad for eg. entree size is plenty.
make pasta with them..hint do it the day before the floors need cleaning.
We have a veggie garden too for that same reason, and now Liam really enjoys salad, and snow peas, and eating things directly from the garden… So now I am just waiting for our first crop of potatoes to see if that works too!!
I haven’t done pasta with the kids yet, I might try that this week. I’ll tell you how I go.
I just discovered quinoa. A great, heathy grain, fluffy, and takes even less time than rice. cooked it up with peas and corn and bacon for my two year old.
