movie: the boys are back
Movie reviews are not generally my specialty – however I was asked to review this aussie drama about family and thought that this was the best location for the review.

The boys are back is a bit of a heart wrenching tear jerker, if you do like a bit of a cry at the movies then this one might just fit the bill. A sentimental journey of fatherhood, a love story, and the aussie bush as a gorgeous backdrop – with these three elements you might just think its a good girly flick. There are some challenging grim moments, lots of humour, and of course there is a moral to the story. While the general rise and fall of the drama is predictable, and some of the storylines don’t always make sense, the convincing acting, and the fact that it is based on a true story, along with the fantastic scenery and photography, make it convincing – enough to wreak havoc on your mascara – bring tissues (its rated pg – but is not a kids movie). Check out a trailer here.
Hopscotch are offering 5 Australian movie goers a double in-season passes to see this flick at your local cinema. Leave a comment here – you have 48 hours – telling me your fave aussie movie of all time.

BABE is my favourite aussie movie because it will outlast any fashions forever into the future and totally suitable for all persons of any age.
Mad Max 2
Mad Max 2!! What a great choice. I have been meaning to watch the mad max movies again for ages.
Wow – hard choice – Mad Max 2 definetly gets a vote – also think Gallipoli is an amazing classic australian movie.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert + the castle + Strictly Ballroom + Chopper + Storm Boy and The Sum of Us
Crackers!
Huge fan of Aussie cinema. I tend to like to slightly silly ones the best. The Big Steal would be pretty high up my list along with Dogs in Space and the Mad Max films. Um Malcom is another and silly little scenes like wondering why the bullets that you sent through the washing machine wouldn’t fire in Two Hands.
The Year My Voice Broke
tough call! i love priscilla, muriel, but my step back in time winner would have to be the man from snowy river
Another vote for Malcolm.
‘The Castle’ would have to be my number one – it just captured the verancular so well.
Off the top of my head, I’d also say ‘the castle’. Though I really liked ‘two hands’ when I saw it, too
Yup The Castle oh and Pricilla, Strickly Ballroom and I know corny as it was Crocodile Dundee!
***ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW***
Crackerjack – I don’t think any of the characters in this movie could be any more Australian if they tried! Hilarious but has a serious side all at the same time!
The Castle – its just the ‘vibe’ of the thing!
Japanese Story, it’s so subtle and lovely. And Samson and Delilah, because I learned so much from that movie.
Where did the revolution go? Is it sleeping off the red cordial?
